About Us

Gateau Physical Therapy Company History

Gateau Physical Therapy was established in 1987 by Southern Maryland native Bonnie B. Gateau in Lusby, Maryland. After success in a small space, Bonnie nearly tripled her space size.

After the Gateau Physical Therapy reputation grew, a clinic was established in St. Mary's County at the site of the old Hollywood Volunteer Firehouse on Route 235 in 1993.

The Lusby practice continued to grow, so a brand new 4000 square foot facility was built from the ground up. This new facility includes a therapeutic pool and our billing center.

1999 brought about a move by Gateau Physical Therapy in St. Mary's County. From Hollywood, Gateau Physical Therapy moved to the Chesapeake Professional Building on route 235 North just South of the San Souci Plaza to better serve the Patuxent Naval Air Station.

In 2011, we moved from the Lexington Park location and again expanded.  The Lexington Park office was replaced by our brand new California Physical Therapy office and the addition of Maryland's first Medically Oriented Gym, adjacent to the PT office, both located behind BJs on Camden Way.

The Medically Oriented Gym (M.O.G.) at Gateau Physical Therapy is staffed by Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Exercise Physiologists.  Membership benefits include a comprehensive assessment that includes BMI, body fat percentage, VO2max, blood pressure, O2 sats, a re-assessment of those values every 90 days, set-up of an exercise program based on a member's goals, their orthopedic and medicals condition, and past exercise experience with demonstration of the exercise equipment.  Group classes are available as part of membership and availability of skilled staff to help with progression of exercise program.  To find out more about the M.O.G., click on the link on this website.

We are constantly growing and expanding our services to meet the needs of our community. Please come and see us some time to view our facilities and services.
